Every day at foxglove brings something new but one thing always stays the same, the joy of knowing you’re making a difference.
As a support worker, my role goes far beyond helping people with everyday tasks. It’s about building trust, sharing laughs, encouraging independence, and creating moments of genuine connection.
My day usually begins by exchanging pleasantries with service users supporting them with their usual morning routine’s. That might mean offering choices for breakfast, encouraging someone to try a new outfit for the day, or simply having a friendly chat to start things off on a positive note.
As the day goes by, I often support CB to prepare his meal who loves rice and chicken curry sauce. CB on the other hand, likes been chatting and he shares about his private life and his up coming itenary lined up. Moments like this remind me how important it is to listen and not just to respond, but to understand and be present.
Throughout the day, I work on supporting individuals in managing their personal care, helping with daily documentation, administering medication, and engaging with them on activities based on their interests and choices.
CB for example, loves helping in the kitchen and house chores. Whether it’s sorting out the bin while staff suppport with preheating his already made meal and setting the table and his smile says it all. He’s not just participating, he’s thriving and being independent. That’s what we strive for at Foxglove;empowering individuals to live life on their terms.
Being a support worker isn’t always easy but it’s always meaningful. The work we do at Foxglove is rooted in respect, patience, and compassion. We are not just staff,we are listeners, reliable, committed, passionate and have integrity.
At the end of the day, knowing that I’ve helped someone feel seen, supported, and valued even in the smallest way makes it all worth it.
